Thieves loot Houston home with body of 89 year old Harvey victim still inside

Looters ransacked the Houston home of an 89-year-old Hurricane Harvey victim while her body floated in four feet of water inside, according to authorities.

As Harvey’s intense winds and heavy rainfall tore through the area, Michelle Poche’s thoughts drifted to her elderly neighbor, Agnes Stanley, she told KTRK.

A trained paramedic, Poche phoned Stanley’s son to get permission to break into the residence and then went into “rescue mode,” swimming through 10 feet of flood water to check in on her elderly neighbor.

Stanley had insisted on waiting out the deadly storm in her home, particularly because she had “great difficulty getting around.”

But when she finally made it to Stanley’s home, Poche discovered her neighbor was under water and phoned 911.

Stanley, a retired nurse, was a longtime volunteer with Houston’s Audubon’s Docent Guild, where she taught children about nature, the Houston Chronicle reported.Stanley’s home and three others in the neighborhood had been robbed, according to the Houston Police Department, which has mounted regular patrols for such thieves and looters.

“She was still in there,” Poche told the station. “The coroner was not able to get in until Thursday to pick her body up. Yeah, they broke into her house and stole stuff, too.”
