“I Slept With My Daughter Nine Times For Money Rituals” – 55-Year-Old Man Confesses




An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 55-year-old man, Bashiru Adeyanju, in prison custody for raping his 17-year-old daughter (names withheld). Adeyanju, a resident of Irona Quarters in Ado-Ekiti timber worker, was arrested on 11th September and confessed to raping the girl nine times for money ritual.

7m Nigerians suffer stress, depression


Dr Olabode Shabi, Chairman of the Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria, (SFPN) Ekiti Zone, has said that about seven million Nigerians currently suffer stress and depression.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the medical consultant made this disclosure at Ado Ekiti in a ceremony organised by the Information Chapel of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

There is tension at Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, following reports that a Fulani herdsman, cut off five fingers of a farmer, identified as Ndubueze Oboro in the area.  Oboro was in a bush at Ozalla in the area when the unidentified Fulani herdsman accosted him and gave him a deep cut on his back shoulder with his machete, before cutting off his five fingers.
The state Police Spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu declined comments on the issue saying that he was attending a course at Abuja. However, other police sources confirmed the incident, adding that the victim was attacked at about 1.30pm.
The victim is now at the UNTH. Three of his fingers were cut off from the right hand while two were cut off from the left hand.
“We were at the market square at about 1.30pm when we were alerted that Oboro was attacked by an unidentified Fulani herdsman in the bush. When we rushed there, we saw Oboro in serious pains as his five fingers had been cut off apart from the deep cut on the back of his shoulder.
“The suspect had eloped soon after committing the offence but as the victim was about to be taken to hospital, irate youths sighted one Abdulrahman Usman another Fulani herdsman passing-by and pushed him down, inflicting injury on his head.
“However, Usman was immediately rescued together with another Fulani who was released to go home, while Oboro and Usman were taken to hospital for treatment,” the police sources said in Enugu, yesterday evening.
Saturday Vanguard learnt that police men at Ozalla had already visited the scene of the crime and recovered two of Oboro’s severed fingers and deposited them at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku -Ozolla, for preservation while investigations into the incident had commenced.

Orphans get N10.3m for cows to celebrate Sallah

The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission has distributed N10.3 million to 86 District Heads to buy cows for orphans during the Eid-el-kabir celebrations coming up next weekend.

Malam Lawal Maidoki, its Chairman, in a brief speech shortly before disbursing the money, stated that the gesture was part of government’s effort to ease the suffering of the orphans and the needy.

At least 16 oil workers die as bus plunges from pier into Black Sea



At least 16 people drowned today after being trapped in a bus which plunged off a pier in southern Russia.
Some 24 have been rescued or swam ashore on the Black Sea, but there were fears that the vehicle was overloaded with oil construction workers and that the toll may rise.
There were unconfirmed claims that between 38 and 60 people were in the bus when it sank at a depth of around 35 ft.
