“Despacito” Dethrones “See You Again” As Most-Viewed YouTube Video

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” is now the most-viewed YouTube video of all time. It has more than 3 billion views, and it’s only been out since January. That means it took less than seven months for the video to break the standing record and be the first video ever to cross the 3B mark.

It was only earlier today that “Despacito” overtook Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” to become the most popular video on YouTube. That hip-hop/pop track had stolen the crown from Psy’s “Gangnam Style” just one month prior, so it didn’t download to rule for very long. While the honor of being on top seems to be changing hands regularly these days, there doesn’t appear to be any upload that will challenge “Despacito” for the No. 1 position, at least not for some time.

“Despacito” continues its run as the song of the summer, having spent the past 12 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. When the song whose title means “slowly” in English initially went to number one in May, it was the first Spanish-language song to reach that position since Macarena did in 1996.
