9 signs that indicate it is infatuation and not love

Don’t mistake infatuation for love at first sight.

There are several times your heart pounds a little faster when you meet someone interesting or good looking. You suddenly start falling for the person and feel as if love is floating in the air. Do you really think love develops so quickly? This is the infatuation stage and most people mistake it for love and go ahead with commitments. Infatuation is very shallow. You need to give it some time to develop deeper feelings for this person and only then can you term it as love. Watch out for these signs that clearly indicate that you’re just infatuated:

  1. You can’t stop thinking about this person. You want to be with them all the time, cuddling up, getting romantic or just watching them. When in love, you miss being with the person but you also miss the conversations and are happy to do that over phone or message too if you both can’t meet up regularly.
  1. You stalk them everywhere. You check their last seen on Whatsapp regularly, you like all their status updates and pictures on social media and leave compliments and comments everywhere. Infatuation just makes you childish whereas love is mature.
  1. You can’t stop fantasizing about them as your life partner even if you’ve just met a few days ago. Love doesn’t happen in one go. It takes time. You may like someone in the first sight, but you need to give love time to grow. Everything till then is just infatuation.
  1. You assume you know them in and out. You even take decisions for them or start assuming what their answers would be and that only after knowing them for a couple of weeks. Stop right there because this bubble will break too soon. In a few months, the person might just act opposite of what you expect or hope.
  2. You feel lonely when they are not around. True love keeps you happy and cheerful all day even if the person is not around. Infatuation is more to do with being close to the person or with them all the time.
  1. Your life revolves around this person. Suddenly, work and personal life come to a stop. You spend most of your time thinking about them or stalking them. You are ready to do anything for them. True love doesn’t involve so much sacrifice. It requires two people to grow together, adapt to each other and strengthen their bond. Infatuation makes you adjust and sacrifice which gets bothersome when the flames die down.
  1. Infatuation leaves you feeling insecure. Love gives you a security blanket and loads of confidence in your partner. When you’re in love, you know your partner is loyal and loves you as much too. You understand if they are unable to talk to you or reply to your texts because of busy schedules. Infatuation keeps you feeling jealous and terrified all the time.
  1. You’re obsessed about the person. You talk about them to everyone all the time. You are blushing and smiling all day because he/she is on your mind all day. You like everything they do. You even find yourself scribbling their name on paper or just checking their pictures and drooling over them. Being in love doesn’t make logic go on vacation.
  1. You want them only to yourself. You prefer if just the two of you hang out all the time. His/her friends or your friends seem like distractions. When it’s love, you are more accepting. You feel the need to know each other’s friends, family and about the personal life to understand each other better.
