According to Premium Times , drama ensued at the venue as thugs allegedly hired by the state government to organise the openly disagreed over the sharing of the largesse after the event.
"The crisis began when the thugs, who were over 100, and were waiting to collect their payments, found that the money was handed over by the sponsors to somebody who was not their leader. PREMIUM TIMES could not ascertain how much the thugs were given by their sponsor to share and how much each of them was to receive. The rally was attended by the Kano State Commissioner of Information, Muhammadu Garba; Head of Service, Auwalu Naiyya; the Executive Secretary of Kano Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abba Yakubu and many other top government officials. When contacted by our correspondent, Mr. Garba declined comment on the matter. In response to an SMS from our correspondent, the commissioner merely said, “no wahala (problem), go ahead.”
The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress in Kano, Kabiru Minjibir, said the congress was not involved in the organisation of the rally, alleging that those invited were members of the National Youth Council."
