On Wednesday, Boko Haram insurgents
attacked a village in southeastern Niger killing 18, according to the
AP.
The attackers moved into the village on motorcycles opening fire on “anything that moved”.
The Boko Haram fighters then raided any businesses or shops in the village, before fleeing the area. Rockets were also fired according to Reuters. The region has seen multiple attacks by Boko Haram in the past few months.
The government ofNiger
declared a State of Emergency
after the attack. An 8,700 strong joint task force, comprised of troops
from Chad , Niger , Benin ,
Nigeria and Cameroon is
operational but has yet to conduct any joint military strikes against Boko
Haram.
